Sensitive skin is a thin or a fine-textured skin. It reacts quickly to both heat and cold; therefore, it sunburns and windburns easily. It is commonly dry, delicate and prone to allergic reactions. Temperature changes, some detergents, cosmetics and alcohol (used on the skin) can all cause irritation, leaving the skin red and blotchy, with visible surface veins.
Be certain you’re not dealing with a skin disorder. Many skin conditions (such as psoriasis, rosacea and eczema) cause irritated, swollen, red, itchy, flaky, or rashy skin. Consult with a dermatologist to ensure your skin sensitivity isn’t something more serious.
Sensitive Skin Care Tips
- Be sure to cleanse and tone twice daily with Feierabend’s Milk n'Honey Cleansing Crème or Multi-Tea Cleansing Crème and Moisturizing Toner. Always touch your face gently.
- Use Feierabend’s Rosehip & Hibiscus Serum to protect and nourish your skin.
- In addition to applying a Feierabend Moisturizer after toning, reapply it whenever your skin starts feeling dry. It is also important to be diligent about reapplying it every time you wash your hands. Don’t forget to keep a Feierabend Moisturizer in your purse, at your desk, and in every bathroom in your home.
- Scale back showers or baths to at least every other day or less. In between, you can perform sponge baths on odor-causing parts of your body. Avoid soaking in the bathtub, Jacuzzi, or taking long showers. Do not use hot water.
- Choose skin care products that do not contain fragrance.
- Never use any makeup or perfume without first trying a little of it on the inside of your wrist to see the reaction of your skin to it.
- Washcloths can irritate your skin, so you should avoid using them.
- Avoid steam baths and saunas. Sweat can leach out natural moisturizing factors in your skin, irritating your skin.
