DRY MEN’S SKIN CARE

For most of us, when we refer to skin care, we mean caring for the face. It is true that the face, more than any other part of the skin, needs care and attention. The face is constantly exposed to the elements, even in severe winter when the rest of the body is well wrapped. Hence, the face is one of the first parts of the body to show signs of aging.

When you are young, the main skin complaints are greasy skin and acne. But as you grow older, the skin gets dry and the challenge is to counteract the dryness of the skin. However, you can have beautiful skin no matter what your age, race or color. The secret is to understand how your skin functions, and to take care of it properly. When you take care of your skin, keep it clean, nourish it, and pamper it, it will respond with gratitude!

There are various components to an optimal Skin Care Regimen; healthy Nutrition, drinking lots of Water, Exercise, a Positive Attitude and adequate Sleep are all essential for healthy skin. In addition, there are numerous Skin Care Products that when applied, cleanse, moisturize, protect and nourish the skin. The types of Skin Care Products that you should use are largely determined by two factors; your age and your skin type. Let's discuss age differences first.

Skin Care by Age

You need to adapt your Skin Care Regimen according to your age. In doing so, this will ensure that your skin is always in the best possible condition that it can be. Throughout the different stages of your life, your skin goes through many changes. What worked in your twenties, may not work in your fifties. Let's look at the challenges that each age group faces and the solutions that can be implemented.

TEENS

This is the best time to establish a proper Skin Care Regimen - the sooner the better. Starting the Fitness Beauty Spa Lifestyle now will pay huge dividends for the rest of your life. Acne, accompanied by Oily Skin, is a major teenage problem which affects both boys and girls. Severe Sunburns usually occur in this age group, as does insufficient Sleep and improper Nutritional and Lifestyle habits.

Solutions:
Acne can be effectively treated with proper Nutrition, Hygiene and regular Cleansing and Toning with Feierabend’s Breakout Buster Cleanser and Breakout Buster Toner. Oily Skin can be remedied by regularly exfoliating with Feierabend’s Wildflower Honey Glow and applying one of Feierabend’s oil-absorbing Mask treatments such as the Pumpkin Peel Enzyme Mask. Sun Exposure is one of the most misunderstood topics concerning skin care. Appropriate Sun Exposure is actually extremely beneficial - the key is to never burn. Adequate Sleep, Stress Reduction and Healthy Lifestyle Choices are beneficial for any age group, but starting in your teens will really give you an advantage in your skin’s long-term health. Also, start using a Moisturizer to preserve your skin’s youth.

TWENTIES

In your twenties, your complexion should be at its best, simply because it's not going through so many changes as when you were a teen. If you want that beautiful complexion to last through your 50's and beyond, you need to establish a proper Skin Care Regimen (if you haven’t done so already). Insufficient Sleep and improper Nutritional and Lifestyle habits will age your skin prematurely. Pregnancy brings on physical and emotional challenges that affect your skin, usually in the form of itchiness and/or dryness.

Solutions:
You want to make sure that your skin is always Hydrated. Moisturizers should be used daily. You may want to begin using a rich Crème for intensive moisturization. This is also a good time to start exfoliating to keep your skin smooth and even in color – a Glow and Facial Mask treatment once or twice a week works wonders. Adequate Sleep, Stress Reduction and Healthy Lifestyle Choices are always essential.

THIRTIES

In your thirties, oil production decreases and you may see lines and wrinkles becoming more apparent. Skin is drier and thinner, pores may appear bigger, and you will notice a decrease in your skin's elasticity. If you haven’t done so already, you need to establish a proper Skin Care Regimen.

Solutions:
This is a good time to start using products which contain DMAE. DMAE helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and makes your skin smoother. Moisturizers are a must. Glows and Facial Masks should be used 1-2 times per week for exfoliating and moisturizing purposes. Begin using Serums that are firming and protective. These will keep the skin looking tight and wrinkle-free. Adequate Sleep, Stress Reduction and Healthy Lifestyle Choices are always essential.

FORTIES and beyond

In your forties and beyond, you will experience more dryness and higher water loss. Your skin is not as good in retaining moisture at this stage. Elasticity will decrease even more, skin tone will be uneven and lines may be more pronounced. Your skin also doesn't heal as well as it once did. If you've never needed a Moisturizer before, you will definitely need one now. Even if your skin was oily in the past, you may now find yourself having to deal with dry skin.

Solutions:
Apply Moisturizers day and night. Use Serums that are firming and protective. These will keep the skin looking tight and wrinkle-free. Glows and Facial Masks should be used 1-2 times per week for exfoliating and moisturizing purposes. Start using products which contain DMAE. Use Cleansers and Toners formulated for mature, dry skin. Adequate Sleep, Stress Reduction and Healthy Lifestyle Choices are always essential.

Skin Care by Skin Type

The next step in determining your optimal skin care regimen is determining your skin type. Skin types can be confusing. We assume that skin, like hair, must be either normal, oily or dry. For most, however, some areas of the face will be oily while others are dry (combination skin). To complicate things even more, in any given period you may have many skin types. Factors that can influence skin type include hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, menstrual cycle, etc.), health problems (rosacea, psoriasis, thyroid disorders, etc.), genetic predisposition of skin type (oily versus dry, prone to breakouts, or sensitive skin), smoking, medications you may be taking, and climate/weather (cold, warm, moist, dry) – just to name a few.

The bottom line; hardly anyone has just "one" skin type. Your skin type is determined by how much, or how little oil your skin produces. Just realize that oil production can vary from location to location and change daily. The amount of oil your skin produces naturally, will determine the amount of oil you need in your products. You may need separate products to deal with the different skin types on your face because you should treat different skin types, even on the same face, differently. To make this as simple as possible, here are the four most common skin types:

  • Normal
  • (no apparent signs of oily or dry areas)
  • Oily
  • (shine appears on skin, no dry areas at all)
  • Dry
  • (flaking can appear, no oily areas at all)
  • Combination
  • (oily and dry or normal areas)

In addition to these common skin types, there are various skin conditions such as:
